Crew Factory Outlet Shopping Bag

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hi there! Happy Friday! Since the weather here has been cool and rainy all week (I think March and May were switched!), I have been dreaming of warmer weather. I've also been thinking about adding a few new spring pieces to my wardrobe. Coincidentally, J.Crew Factory online is currently having a sale -- up to 60% off everything, plus an additional 20% off with the purchase of three or more items (code: THISISNICE exp. 5/9). This is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe for the upcoming warmer months... If they ever get here!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I started a new job this month, so I've already purchased a few items, including this dress. Since there's a sale going on now, I figured I'd pick up a few more items. Some items are not really for work, but definitely adorable pieces I'd like to add to my wardrobe.

Embroidered peasant top

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I love the color combination of aqua and navy and I think this will pair nicely with some white jeans. I imagine I'll get a lot of use out of this top running errands on the weekends or meeting a friend for lunch.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is a fun shirt -- It is nice and bright with an adorable orange print! I don't have much in my wardrobe in this color, so I think it will be a nice addition. I own this style shirt in another print, and it's quite comfy!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This definitely isn't a piece for work, but I think it's perfect for the warm weather. Truth be told, I may get it to wear while working out!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Crystal centerpiece necklace
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am always looking to add new pieces to my jewelry collection and I think this will fit in perfectly. The color is a nice rose gold and it's neutral enough for me to wear with many outfits.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Layered gemstone necklace
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Another pretty piece in a color I don't believe I own. The green adds a nice pop of color for the spring. I have a few tops that will go well with this necklace.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Now it's your turn -- What fun items are you looking to add to your wardrobe for the warmer months?
I just realized it's been a while since I've posted. How have you been? Did you miss me? I know I missed you all! I owe you a post on my 21-Day Fix<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> experience and hope to have that for you soon. I've also been working on the redesign of my blog and I am getting very excited. The new site should hopefully be live in a few weeks!<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Since I know you haven't had much fun because of my lack of posts, I'll bring you up to date on what I've been up to lately! :)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I've been on a serious avocado toast kick again. Lately, I've been sprinkling red pepper flakes on top instead of hot sauce. It adds a nice, subtle kick!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I registered for the Disney 10k which is in January and am contemplating the half, too. I am just not sure I'll want to keep up with much running after the NYC Marathon, so I will wait a bit before I decide.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I got a cut and color! Not really a big deal since I get a color every six weeks (thanks for the white temples, MOM!) and a cut every 12. But, I got balayage and I love it! I am also loving the shorter cut!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I enjoyed a couple trail runs at Minuteman National Park. I just love that trail!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Of course I spectated the Boston Marathon. This is somewhere near Heartbreak Hill and the man across from us (in yellow hat) was handing out Miller High Life. Gotta love it! My friend Lisa and her daughter ran it and they looked strong! Neither of them are in this photo -- it's a photo of a woman (orange shorts) I thought I knew. I even tagged her in the photo on Instagram and she was like nope, not me! Haha!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">While out and about with Alison, we had to pull over to capture this gorgeous sunset over the pond!

That's what I told myself when I first decided to try out 21-day Fix -- It's just three weeks. I'm on day nine of the fix and so far, so good. Some of you may remember I started Weight Watchers in January. I gave it a try for two months and it didn't work for me. I tried to figure out a good balance of exercise and following the plan, but after two months, I lost a total of 1.4 pounds. Yes, losing even a small amount of weight is better than gaining or maintaining, but with such small results, it wasn't enough for me to continue following (or paying for!) the plan. I quit after only eight weeks and I am okay with that. I was getting frustrated with both myself and the plan, and it just wasn't worth the stress -- especially since I wasn't really seeing results.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I needed to try something different, so I finally bit the bullet and ordered the 21-day Fix. For those of you who aren't familiar, 21-day Fix is both a fitness and nutrition plan. You follow a 30-minute workout each day, ranging from full body cardio to yoga. You also follow a nutrition "plan". I have plan in quotes as you can eat most anything, but are limited to a number of servings per day (eg four servings of protein, four servings of veggies). I think it is a good way to help eliminate added sugars from your diet and learn portion sizes. You use provided containers as your guide, but I wish they would list the actual serving size as I don't find it realistic to use containers for the rest of your life. There is also a third component, Shakeology.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am following the workouts and the eating plan, minus Shakeology. I have tried Shakeology in the past and didn't care for the aftertaste (stevia is no good in my book). I will give a full report at the end of the cycle, but I thought I'd share a little about my experience so far.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Workouts

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I followed the workouts for six out of the seven days. I opted out of yoga on <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Sunday because<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> I just didn't want to do it. I've also decided I hate pilates. :)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I added a run at the end of two workouts. I wanted to run more, but I was sore and I didn't want to overdo it.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Nutrition

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">For the most part, I followed the nutrition plan perfectly. My "cheat" meal (dessert, really) was a sugar sweetened Greek yogurt. Where I normally would have gone for chocolate, I opted for either a cherry or key lime Greek yogurt. I also had some Goldfish here and there as I was craving something salty.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I was hungry all day for the first three to four days, but am now starting to feel a lot less hungry throughout the day

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I had one alcoholic drink (you're allowed some wine, but I had one 12 oz beer)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I will write up a full recap at the end of the 21 days, but I thought I would fill you in on how things are going so far. I'm hoping this will help me get a good start on some weight loss since I start marathon training in July. Any weight loss will definitely be a good thing!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Have any of you tried 21-day Fix or any similar fitness/nutrition plan? Any tips?Cate Hartnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00305492151053352016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636806960229502381.post-65517931306881429662016-04-10T20:21:00.001-04:002016-04-10T20:21:25.579-04:00Meal Planning -- Week of 4/10Wow -- it's already Sunday night! My weekend was fairly quiet, but seemed to fly by quickly. I just finished dinner, so I thought it would be the perfect time to share my menu for the week.

Sunday: Steak and strawberry salad
Monday: Scallops and veggie fried "rice"
Tuesday: Taco salad
Wednesday: Hamburgers with sweet potato wedges and roasted broccoli
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Leftovers
Saturday: Leftovers

Breakfast will be the usual eggs, yogurt or oatmeal with fruit. Lunches will likely be just leftovers or salad. If salad, I will probably cook some chicken breasts to add to the salads. Snacks will be veggies and hummus, yogurt and fruit.
How are you all doing this fine Friday? The sun is shining, which is a great change of pace since we had snow (!!!) on Monday and yesterday was a rainy mess. Springtime in New England is just the best! :) I'm off to workout then run some errands, so I'll leave you with the latest installment of What I'm Loving Lately. Have a great weekend!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial"; line-height: 18.48px;">You can find a roundup my previous What I'm Loving Lately posts <span style="background-color: white; color: #2288bb; font-family: "arial"; line-height: 18.48px; text-decoration: none;">here.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Everyday Luxe Peony Gardens Candle
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This soy blend candle has quickly become a favorite of mine (I think it's tied with my beloved macaron candle). With three wicks, this lightly scented candle burns evenly and gives off a scent that is perfect for this time of year. I don't normally care for floral scents, but peonies are one of my favorite flowers, so I thought I'd give this candle a try. I have only been able to find this brand in TJX stores (mostly HomeGoods) and they are reasonably priced (less than $10). If you're looking to try a new candle, I definitely recommend this one.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">After months of darker polish colors, I opted to go with this pastel purple when I had my nails done yesterday. It's part of the Alice Through the Looking Glass collection and I love it! I normally go with red this time of year before transitioning to pastels (then brights!) for the spring, but I couldn't resist this pretty color.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I enjoyed this salad last week -- I omitted the fennel and added grilled chicken. I adore grapefruit and this salad was a delicious balance of tart, creamy (from the avocado) and tangy (from the goat cheese). I am looking forward to my next trip to b.good so I can have this salad... with a side of baked sweet potato fries, of course!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">After months of being on hiatus, Empire is finally back on the air! It is absolutely a guilty pleasure and I love it!!! It may just be the cheesiest, but it's an hour a week where I can be completely mindless. #whatwouldcookiedo
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">While my bedroom redo isn't 100% done, I am really loving how it's coming together. The decor in my bedroom has been in limbo for a few years, but I am almost done. I wanted to create a luxurious hotel-like feel with a fairly neutral color palette. I went with grey as my primary color and am using white, black and pink to accent. I'm enjoying having my coffee in bed on the weekends vs. sitting on the sofa in the living room. My goal was to be able to enjoy my bedroom during the day, and not just while sleeping -- mission accomplished! Once I am completely finished, I will definitely share photos of the final look. Until then, here's a sneak peek.
I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was a crazy mix of New England weather -- Friday was near 70, Saturday was 50s and raining and Sunday was in the 30s and snowing (as it is today)!

I realize I haven't shared a meal plan in a while, but my blog is being redesigned, so I haven't been able to post as much. I am hoping the redesign will be done soon and I can't wait to share it with you! I am starting a new meal plan this week (more on that later), so this week's menu is a little boring. It will take me a little bit to get used to the plan, so hopefully next week's menu will be more interesting.
Sunday: Leftovers

Hi all! I realize I haven't posted in two weeks, but I have a good reason -- My blog is getting a whole redesign!!! I am so excited! I haven't been able to post while the content gets migrated to the new platform, but I did want to let you know I didn't forget about you. I am able to start posting regularly again, so you won't have to miss me for much longer.Cate Hartnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00305492151053352016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636806960229502381.post-91336486804282061242016-03-14T11:03:00.001-04:002016-03-14T11:03:05.513-04:00Weekend Happenings

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a great weekend?

I had a nice weekend. Friday night was spent relaxing on the sofa. I don't know about you, but my allergies are in full force and my head has felt like it is being squeezed by a giant clamp. Saturday morning, I dusted and vacuumed, then went for a 60 minute run before heading out to get my hair colored. My friend Danielle and I did a little outlet shopping then went out to dinner. We headed home for a crazy night of bubbly while watching Golden Girls. I know, I know! Sunday was spent running errands and I was passed out early!

Here are a few snapshots from my weekend.
I hope you're all enjoying your weekend. Normally, Daylight Saving doesn't bother me, but I feel really tired today! I will be lazy for a little longer before heading out to run errands -- including grocery shopping! After spending about an hour searching the web, I have decided this week's menu will definitely include a few spring inspired dishes. I use Grady's cold brew bags (which reminds me, I need to order more!) to make a big batch on Sunday and it lasts me all week. <span style="font-family: "arial";">Strawberries by the pound! I know this doesn't seem like an indulgence, but I have been eating so. many. strawberries, I may turn into one! I normally don't buy strawberries this early in the season as they are usually pretty tasteless, but I was drawn in by how good they smelled. This season's berries have been super flavorful. In the past two weeks, I have purchased at least five pounds of strawberries. It didn't hurt that organic strawberries are on sale 3/$10 at Whole Foods. I just prepped a pound of them and put them in the freezer for smoothies.
I always keep the door closed on this room since I can't stand to look at the mess, yet I keep putting off cleaning it up and organizing. I have almost all the components I need to make my home gym fully functional, but I am lacking any motivation to do it. I need a solid two days of no commitments to clean out the room and get it in order. I also need to hit up IKEA for a storage unit I have been eyeing. Maybe I'll have some extra time in April.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Fresh flowers! I have started getting into the habit of picking up a bouquet of flowers each week while grocery shopping. I picked up some beautiful orange tulips yesterday at Whole Foods and I plan to go back today as they are having a sale on them -- 3/$12! I must also mention I picked up a bouquet at Wegmans nearly three weeks ago and it still looks great! I've changed the water regularly and picked out a few dying buds here and there, but they still look awesome. The price was a little higher than I like to pay for flowers, but I can tell you it is worth it!
<span style="color: black; font-family: "arial";">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "arial";">Scallops are probably my favorite seafood and I am always looking for different ways to enjoy them. This dish looks like a tasty and simply meal to throw together on any weeknight, yet special enough to serve for a dinner party.
I won the lottery!!!! The New York City Marathon lottery, that is! After entering the lottery for three years, my name was finally drawn! I guess third time is a charm!

I was pretty busy with work all day, which made it easier to keep me from obsessively checking my bank account to see if I had been charged. I'll admit, I checked a few <strike>hundred</strike> times, but nothing! I guessed it wasn't my year and started thinking about another fall marathon. Then, around 4:15, I decided I'd check my NYRR account and I really felt my eyes were deceiving me -- It said You Have Been Accepted into the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. I didn't believe it because my checking account hadn't been charged and I thought that was the first indication you had been selected! I looked at my account settings and realized I had registered using my credit card and not my debit card!

I am still in shock I was chosen. I have read so many recaps of this race my some of my favorite bloggers, which has made me want to run the race even more. My favorites are here, here and here.

I have a lot of work ahead of me over the next eight months and I will be reading anything and everything I can get my hands on about the race. I have decisions to make about what training plan to use or if I want to use a coach. Three's so much to think about, but for now, I will just be sitting over here on cloud nine!
Did you all have a great weekend? Mine was pretty busy, but I was still able to get in some much needed relaxation. Sundays around here usually mean meal planning and prep. However, since I was busy all day today, I didn't have time to go grocery shopping, let alone prep. Therefore, my menu this week will include quick meals which require little to no prep. And leftovers -- Lots of leftovers!

Sunday: No dinner as I attended a late afternoon birthday party
Monday: Chicken sausage, baked sweet potatoes and roasted broccoli
Tuesday: Frittata using leftovers from Monday
Wednesday: Sauteed garlic shrimp with burst cherry tomatoes served over cauliflower mash
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Skinnytaste's chicken with roasted tomato and red onion
Saturday: Either out to dinner or leftovers

Breakfasts will likely be egg sandwiches, smoothies or oatmeal. Lunches will be leftovers and snacks will be the usual hummus with veggies, fruit and popcorn.

Shopping list:

Cherry tomatoes
Red onion
Basil
Eggs
Liquid egg whites
Chicken breasts

I have all the other ingredients in my pantry, freezer and fridge, so my grocery list this week is short!

What's on your menu this week?Cate Hartnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00305492151053352016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636806960229502381.post-32355865319576305552016-03-04T08:00:00.000-05:002016-04-08T10:27:02.597-04:00What I'm Loving Lately VII<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY! I have a fairly low key weekend ahead of me and I couldn't be happier. It's been a while since I've created a What I'm Loving Lately post, so here you go! Below you'll find a list of what makes me happy these days. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!<span style="font-family: "arial";">
<span style="font-family: "arial";">
<span style="font-family: "arial";">You can find a roundup my previous What I'm Loving Lately posts here.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">I have been using Yes to Carrot products for a while, and recently stumbled upon this at Target. During the winter, I am constantly applying lotion and I've found I don't need to reapply as often when using this lotion as it is nice and thick, yet absorbs really well. I love anything coconut, so the scent is an added bonus. Made with both coconut oil and shea butter, this cream absolutely helps to soften and smooth your dry, cracked skin.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">I'm a little late to the game, but I recently discovered Bitmoji and I'm obsessed! I think my friends may be ready to block me because I am constantly texting them with random Bitmojis. It's super fun - you create an avatar which is used in various memes which you can text, email or post to Facebook. It's silly, but keeps me entertained for a while. I clearly need a new hobby!
The candle is made from coconut wax and it smells so good. The scent is very light, which is great since it is a tad on the sweeter side. I think it's a great transition scent, especially since we've been having unseasonably warm weather these past few weeks. The price is a little more than I would normally spend on a candle, but it really is worth it. I've burned it for two days straight and I feel like it will last a long time!

The farthest I've run in them is a 10k, so I can't speak to how they'll do for longer distances, but I highly recommend these. They're comfy and a great neutral shoe.

I've been eating these crackers for a while, but I decided I'd talk about them today as my friends and I enjoyed them during our hotel happy hour this past weekend in NYC. These crackers are organic, gluten free, vegan and full of goodness. Even though they are nut free, the seeds make the crackers taste super nutty, which I love. I always have a box on hand for snacking -- I especially love them with hummus. Yum!
Now it's your turn. What have you been loving lately?Cate Hartnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00305492151053352016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636806960229502381.post-67492383556901031422016-03-03T09:10:00.000-05:002016-03-06T22:06:46.550-05:00Upcoming Races<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hello and happy Thursday! It seems like winter is still here as it's only in the 20s right now! The cold won't be around long as it will be in the upper 50s early next week. You have to love winters in New England! Let's just hope the weather stays mild for the next month so I can get in some good outdoor training runs!
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">I finally sat down the other day and committed to a spring race schedule. I know most people have their race schedule already planned by now, but I haven't been in the greatest shape and I was tired of spending money on races, only to DNS. I thought if I assessed my fitness each race season, I would be able to choose races based on my current abilities. I have a history of choosing race X as my goal and end up not being prepared, so I just don't bother running the race. I think my approach this year will be better for me mentally as I won't beat myself up for not pushing myself and being prepared. I think my wallet will appreciate it as well!
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">With that said, here is my race schedule for the next few months. I'm running a few of these races because my running group, Thirsty Irish Runners, has signed up for them and I know they'll be fun!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hi all - just checking in with an update from my quick weekend getaway to NYC. We lucked out with the gorgeous weather and spent most of Sunday outside in Central Park!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We arrived in New York around 4pm on Saturday and checked into our Midtown hotel. We had a little happy hour in our room while getting ready for our night out on the town. After some wine, cheese, crackers and apples, we ventured out to Dos Caminos for some margaritas and more snacks. A little later we headed over to the Empire State Building. All the times I've visited NYC, I've never been to the Empire State Building. We decided an evening trip would be a great time and the views were definitely worth it!

The weather was perfect for a stroll in Central Park!Sadly, it was time to head home, but not before stopping at Magnolia Bakery for some sweet treats. I had a whirlwind of a trip to NYC with some of my girlfriends. I had a great time, but I am exhausted! On the drive home, I thought about what I was going to make for dinner this week and I couldn't come up with anything new or interesting. So, this week I will be sticking with old standbys. Boring, but they are tried and true favorites. I am also only cooking twice this week, which makes things much easier and less stressful!
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";"><span style="font-family: "arial";">Sunday: I cheated and decided to pick up a few things from Wegman's hot bar instead of making dinner. I know, I know... but after my weekend away, I was too tired to cook!
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Monday: Skinnytaste's lasagna soup
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Tuesday: pork roast with roasted veggies
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Wednesday: leftovers
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Thursday: leftovers
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Friday: either out to dinner or leftovers

<span style="font-family: "arial";">Breakfasts will be eggs or oatmeal. As usual, snacks will be fruit, cheese sticks, popcorn and veggies with hummus.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

What are you making this week?Cate Hartnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00305492151053352016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636806960229502381.post-30454617507406701262016-02-25T08:00:00.000-05:002016-02-25T10:17:04.265-05:00Five Favorite Fitness Apps<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hi! Could this really be the last full week of February?! Since we're already two months into 2016, it seems like a good time to check in with yourself and see how you're doing with your fitness goals. While I don't have any formal goals set for myself, I have made some small lifestyle changes over the past eight weeks. To make these changes and stay motivated, I use a few different fitness apps.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to discuss my favorite fitness apps!
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">There are so many fitness-related apps out there today, so it's hard to narrow them down to just five. Some of these I've been using for a while, and others are a little newer to me. These are apps I use most frequently to help get me moving and stay motivated.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">Runkeeper

<span style="font-family: "arial";">This is probably the fitness app I use most. Runkeeper is a great app to track your activity - whether it's running, swimming, cycling or walking. I find it very user friendly and I like how you can follow along with your friends on their fitness journey. Runkeeper often has challenges for its users to participate in, which I think is fun. The challenges motivate you to move more in order to complete the challenge. Runkeeper also links up to many other apps, such as MyNB and MyFitnessPal. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new fitness app.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">MyNB

<span style="font-family: "arial";">MyNB is New Balance's loyalty reward program. Second to Runkeeper, this is the app I use most. You can earn points to redeem for products, race bibs and experiences (hello - a weekend in CA with a New Balance trainer?!). Points can rack up pretty quickly by making purchases on newbalance.com or following them on all their social media outlets. There are three reward levels: bronze, silver and gold. Each level has its own benefits such as free shipping and personalized offers. You even earn points for exercising! The rewards are definitely motivation to get me moving!
You can choose from 1,000s of playlists to suit your mood. I like to use RockMyRun when I am tired of my own music and it never fails to pump me up. What's even better is you can set the tempo of the songs to match your workout. Looking to PR at your next race? Let RockMyRun help you by getting you to move just a little faster and keep you going.

I've been using this app in place of my Polar watch as I have found it to be nearly as accurate when it comes to distance. You can set up workout profiles and customize them with a variety of displays -- it's really user friendly.

It's a rainy one here, so I was craving something a little different for breakfast. I decided to have eggs and waffles, but also wanted something a bit sweet (I blame it on all the smoothies!). I spotted peaches in the freezer, so I decided to whip up a quick topping for my waffles.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I've been making fruit sauce like this for a long time, but figured I'd share the recipe with you today. The best part of this recipe is that it is completely customizable -- you can easily switch up the fruit to whatever you have on hand. This is great with mixed berries! The recipe can be easily multiplied, too.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">Quick and Easy Peach Topping
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Serves: 1
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">1 cup peaches (fresh or frozen)
<span style="font-family: "arial";">1-2 t water (depending on if you use fresh or frozen)
<span style="font-family: "arial";">1 T brown sugar or sweetener of your choice (may need to adjust amount depending on which sweetener you use)
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Pinch of cinnamon
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Pinch of salt
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Splash of vanilla
<span style="font-family: "arial";">Pinch of cornstarch or some other thickener (optional)
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">Add all ingredients to a saucepan and cover. Simmer over low heat until peaches are soft and warmed through. If sauce is too thin, add cornstarch and stir to combine. Cook for a few minutes longer to thicken.
<span style="font-family: "arial";">

<span style="font-family: "arial";">Enjoy!
How's your weekend so far? Anything fun planned for the day? My trip to NYC was rescheduled, so I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee in my living room while trying to keep warm. It's crazy cold out there today, so please be safe if you venture outdoors!

Thanks to last week's huge shopping trip and one small one on Thursday, I don't have much I need to buy.
I am so happy it is the weekend -- I am headed to NYC for a girls' weekend and I couldn't be more excited! Since many of us will be eating our share of chocolate this weekend, I thought I would share a healthy and delicious recipe to kick off your weekend.

While grocery shopping this past weekend, I finally found the riced cauliflower from Trader Joe's. It's been all over the interwebs and my store finally had some in stock. I bought three bags just in case I loved it. I am so glad I did! I decided to make a fried "rice" because I knew it would be a great way to get in some veggies. Thanks to the cauliflower already being prepped, this makes it a great option for a weeknight meal.

This recipe is totally customizable. You could easily switch up the protein. I chose shrimp because it's high in protein and low in calories, but this would be equally delicious with chicken, pork or tofu. Feel free to mix it up with the veggies, too!

Shrimp Fried Cauliflower "Rice"

Serves: 2-3

12 oz. riced cauliflower

12 oz. large raw shrimp, peeled

1 stalk celery, diced

1/2 medium onion, diced

1/3 cup shredded carrots or 1 medium carrot, diced

1/4 cup frozen corn

1/4 cup snow peas, cut in half (make sure to remove the stringy membrane)

1/3 cup egg whites

1 large egg

2 T soy sauce (I used tamari)

1 T garlic, finely chopped (I like a lot of garlic)

Salt & pepper, to taste

Nonstick spray

Optional: scallions or chives for garnish, diced

Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Spray with nonstick spray and add shrimp once pan is hot enough. Season with salt and pepper, if desired. Once the shrimp turns pink, flip to cook other side. This should only take a few minutes. Be careful not to overcook as you do not want the shrimp to become tough. You'll also be adding the shrimp back into the pan later, so undercooking the shrimp just a little is perfectly fine. Once cooked, remove from pan and set aside.

Spray pan again and add all the veggies (except the scallions/chives). Cook for a few minutes until onions are translucent and veggies are soft. Add in the cauliflower, soy sauce and garlic. Combine with veggies. Turn heat up to medium high and continue to cook until cauliflower is done. I cooked it for about 12-15 minutes because I like to get a nice caramel color on the rice and veggies. Taste for seasoning and add salt and pepper, if needed.

Add shrimp back into pan. Make a hole in the middle of the pan and add the egg and egg whites. Let sit for about 45 seconds, then stir to break up the yolk and add into the veggie and shrimp mixture. I like larger pieces of egg, so I don't mix it up too much, but mix it in a bit more if you like smaller pieces of egg.

Top with diced scallions or chives and enjoy!
