Run for Charlotte

Good morning.  How is it already Monday?  I hope you all had a relaxing weekend!  My
weekend was pretty low key.  Saturday's weather was pretty gross, so I ended up getting a lot of laundry done as well as a run on the good old treadmill.  Later in the day, I met up with a friend to walk her dog then get some ice cream at Kimball's.  :)

As much as I love ice cream from Kimball's, the highlight of my weekend was on Sunday when I ran the Run for Charlotte 5k.  The race was created in honor of Charlotte Rose Kelly who was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma in June 2009.  Sadly, Charlotte lost her battle in December 2011.  The race is a way to remember and honor Charlotte and her bravery during her battle with cancer as well as raise funds to help find a cure.

It was amazing to see so many people gather to run or walk in honor of Charlotte and others who are fighting or who have lost their fight with the disease.  Last year's race raised over $125,000 and I imagine even more was raised this year.  Normally, I run races with my Garmin and try to focus on a good race.  I generally get upset with myself if I'm not keeping a particular pace, but yesterday was different.  I ran watch free and just decided to run for Charlotte and for those who could not.  I didn't care what my time was - I just knew that running was the least I could do.  I'm already looking forward to running this again next year!
