Hurts So Good!

That's how I feel after today's workout.  After a morning of house cleaning and pancake making (recipe to come later), I had headed to the gym with a plan to warm up a bit on the elliptical then do some upper body lifting.  But, when I arrived at the gym, I just felt unmotivated to lift.  I hopped on a treadmill and decided to do some interval training.

I started out my workout by running for a 1/4 mile and walking for .10.  After 1.35 miles, I ran for 1.15 miles while increasing the speed by .20 of a mile every 1/4 of a mile.  For the next 2 miles I continued to walk/run.  I tried to run .25 and walk .10 but depending on the speed I was able to run a bit longer and sometimes slightly shorter.  I walked for the last .30 miles to cool down some.  At the end of the workout I was a sweaty mess and a bit sore, but it felt good to push myself.

I'm recovering now with a spinach-strawberry-banana smoothie, but not before I popped a few Trader Joe's yummy tummy jellies in my mouth!  I think I may have a new addiction.  Luckily I only bought one bag for me...  But, the bag I bought for my friend may not be safe!

Smoothie with almond milk, a scoop of vanilla whey powder, a banana, strawberries and a big handful of spinach.  Perfect way to refuel after a workout!

Another great way to refuel after a workout!  :)
Here's what I plan to do this week for workouts.  It's supposed to be in the 50s for the rest of the week (well above normal for February in Boston!) so I hope to get a run in after work one night!

SU: Run around Fresh Pond
M: TM interval run (60 minutes)
T: Elliptical (45 minutes) and upper body weights
W: Run with Alison
TH: Elliptical (45 minutes) and lower body weights with ab work
F: Rest
S: Either TM run or elliptical with upper body weights and ab work

I'm off to get ready to meet my parents for dinner at PF Chang's.  That's part of the reason I decided to do the intervals instead of the elliptical.  The more calories I burn, the more I can eat tonight.  Is that wrong?  :)

Have a good night!
